5 Fun Things To Do This Month:
1. Two-Wheel It!
May is Bicycle
Commute Month in the Sac region. (It’s
also National Salad Month, and if that’s not a recipe for health, then
I don’t know what is.) Want a little help kicking off your bike commute?
Register online to get a commute guide and safety tips, start logging your
miles, enter to win prizes and find out how kids and schools can get involved:
www.bikecommutemonth.com.
2. Eat a Witch’s
House.
This month you and the
kids can also Make Like a Caped Crusader and Vow to Never Cry Wolf, as Fairytale
Town kicks off its
annual Puppet Festival with fresh reinventions of Hansel and Gretel (see
May 1), Super Tommy (May 14), and The Boy Who Cried Wolf (May 28). Guaranteed
giggles!
3. Stroll, Stride, Jog or Mosey for the Cure.
The 12th
Annual Susan G. Komen Race for the CureS takes place May 10th in Sacramento, and no matter how
you participate, being part of this event will make a great big heartwarming
difference, not just in your own life, but to the women whose lives you’ll
touch—or even save!—and their husbands, children, sisters, aunts… Register
online at www.komensacramento.org to receive a complimentary Raley's $5 Gift
Card, or sign-up in-person Saturday, May 3-Friday, May 9, 10am-6:30pm, in front
of Nordstrom at Arden Fair Mall.
4. Thank Your Mom.
Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 11, once again posing
the question, “What do you get the lady who gave you life?” Besides
the traditional burnt pancakes in bed, or one of the wonderful books or cool
new accessories we featured in this issue, may we suggest an outing? Green-thumbed
mamas might like the East Sacramento Garden Tour on the 10th or the Mother
Nature Stroll happening in Carmichael on the 11th. Foodie moms will appreciate
Whole Foods’ Vegetarian Mother’s Day Brunch on the 11th. And if
you know a mom who’s expecting, you might want to invite her to Pregnancy
Journey's Open House for Expectant Mother's Day, Sunday, May 4th in Sacramento.
Other events devoted to Mom appear in pink throughout the Calendar.
5. Tattoo the Kids.
Roseville KidsFest takes place Saturday,
May 17th at the Roseville Sports Center. Stop by the Sacramento Parent Magazine
booth—we’ll
be there, monkeying around—and have your child pose for a picture with
his or her (temporary) tattoo. You might just find that smiling face in our
July issue! This event promises to be a LOT of fun, with all kinds of free
activities, classes, demos, music, games, entertainment, giveaways and prizes,
and not just for kids—for parents too! Proceeds benefit Sierra Family
Services. We’re proud to be a part of it, and we can’t wait to
see you there!
