Covering Kids: No- and Low-Cost Insurance

By Amy Crelly

Approximately 26,000 children (ages 0-18) in Sacramento County do not have health coverage. Surprisingly, about two-thirds of these children (17,300) are actually eligible for low-cost or no-cost programs, such as Medi-Cal and Healthy Families, yet they’re not enrolled. Help is here for parents trying to budget coverage for their kids and sort through the options available:

Free Enrollment Service
Christine Glaesman is a Certified Application Assistant Liaison for the Healthy Families and Medi-Cal insurance programs. (Healthy Families offers low-cost insurance for those who don’t have private insurance but do not qualify for free Medi-Cal.) Christine helps families enroll their children and teens for health, dental and vision coverage – and her service is free!

Christine works out of Placerville, but handles most of her cases over the phone, helping families from all over our region. It’s quick (you can expect to spend less than fifteen minutes on the phone with her). It’s easy (she’ll handle all the paperwork and processing, and your child will have coverage with regular providers within a month). And did we mention it’s free? You can reach Christine at 530-644-6477 or 530-306-7598.
