Young Hearts Need Homes

The statistics are staggering—there are over 60,000 children in foster care in California, many of them eligible for adoption. As we shared with you last month, Sacramento Parent is dedicated to encouraging families to foster or adopt children. With this goal in mind we’re launching our new monthly column, Creating Families.

If you’ve ever considered, even for a moment, opening your heart and your home to a child, then read on. These organizations offer excellent information and support as you consider those first steps on the path to growing your family:

The California Alliance of Child and Family Services is a statewide association of more than 130 private nonprofit child and family agencies committed to providing the highest quality services in the most caring and effective fashion. The members of this group are held to high standards, and their website offers a wealth of information.

The California Association of Adoption Agencies has been establishing guidelines for   California’s adoption agencies since 1955. Its 85 members, both county and private licensed agencies, recognize the importance of comprehensive and lifelong services to adopted children, adult adoptees, birth parents and adoptive parents.

The Heart Gallery Adoption Gala is a can’t-miss event if you’ve already made the decision to adopt. This annual event showcases local foster children waiting for loving, permanent families, with photographs capturing each child’s unique and lovable personality. It will be held from 5-8pm on Saturday, November 6th at the Marco Fuoco Gallery in Sacramento. (The gallery is on display November 2nd through the 8th.) Admission to the Gala is free, with wine, food, music and children’s activities provided.
