How to Pick a Summer Camp

3.    How far?
Local camps are easier to evaluate and visit, offer minimal travel costs, and new friends will be close to home. Going farther away can promote independence.

4.    What would your camper really love to do this summer?

5.    Is your child shy or outgoing?
Shy kids often do better at smaller camps while extroverts may feel "the more, the merrier."

6.    Relax or go for the goals?
Does your camper want to gain a competitive edge on the soccer field or in the classroom? Or should this summer be all about fun?

7.    Single-sex or co-ed?
A girls-only or boys-only camp allows some kids to really “be themselves.” Other kids prefer a co-ed setting.

8.    What's your budget for camp this year?
Discounts and scholarships can make a difference. Also check if prices are all-inclusive or if there are charges for “extras” like transportation, swim lessons, horseback riding, or field trips.
