Tale of Two Showers

Soak Up These Ideas!

1)   Little Boy Blue

Roseville photographer Jackie Willard’s friends threw her a vintage tricycle themed shower filled with bold designs and fabulous indulgences to mark her impending baby boy.  Jackie, who owns Jacqueline Photography, kept her camera around her neck as she and her family and friends played Baby Bingo, noshed on cucumber sandwiches and ducked into a photo booth for funny take home shots!    Navy blue graphic invitations set the tone and Jackie’s friends at 2Chic Events made sure everything from the navy paper stars to the silver tricycle centerpiece was memorable.  Jackie’s lucky guests indulged in slices from one of the three cakes which stole the show on the buffet table.  Of course, the real star of the party made his entrance a short time later!

Jackie’s shower ideas to borrow:

  • Have a photography savvy friend shoot the shower – or do it yourself.
  • Spoil your guests with a catered dessert buffet or multiple cakes.
  • Play fun games and have a photo booth for hilarious shots guests with the mom of honor.

2)   Sugar and Spice

Sacramento Parent Magazine’s own, Stephanie Johnstone, a mom to be, celebrated her baby girl with a casual, outdoor party full of crafty goodness and a bright color scheme of hot pink, orange and robins-egg blue.  Stephanie made her own invites in Illustrator, backed them with burlap and then glued on a fabric bunting.  The bunting theme was repeated in a large banner which reads “baby of mine” made by Stephanie’s cousin designer Anna Mitchell, and was layered with doilies from Stephanie’s grandmother.

Flowers were simply farmers market blooms plunked into thrifted mason jars and the hors d’oeuvers included tiny scones and pink lemonade.  Stephanie’s creative friends crafted the large paper flowers that will later go into baby’s nursery. Guests had fun designing onesies with iron on fabric to make a personal layette and the party ended on a sweet note with Pinkdelicious cupcakes from Icing on the Cupcake!

Stephanie’s shower ideas to borrow:

  • Do your own invites, food and decor for a budget friendly fete.
  • Re-use banners or paper flowers as a whimsical baby mobile in the nursery.
  • Hit the farmers market for pretty blooms to stash in mason jars for a charming table.
