Auburn, CA - August 24, 2011 – Sacramento Parent Magazine, the largest and oldest locally owned parenting publication in Northern California, has formed a partnership with the Sacramento Children’s Museum (SCM) to support its mission to build a world-class children’s museum for the region.
Scheduled to open its doors August 25, 2011 in Rancho Cordova, the Sacramento Children’s Museum will focus on bringing fun and learning to children (ages 0 to 8), a segment of the area’s population lacking a museum dedicated to this demographic. Sacramento Parent’s 140,000 readers are made up of area families that will be enjoying the play-based environment and family learning opportunities. The partnership aims to connect the community to foster life-long learning and discovery.
Executive Director Sharon Stonesmith says, “SCM is grateful for the collaboration with Sacramento Parent Magazine as it will provide a link between our museum attendees and the loyal readers of the magazine. We believe we have a terrific long-term partner in Sacramento Parent magazine.”
“We are excited to help the Sacramento Children’s Museum in their advertising efforts and believe this partnership will be a force for exposing the area’s children to the museum experience. We encourage our readers to visit the museum and take part in all its exciting exhibits,” says Sacramento Parent’s Editor-in-Chief, Shelly Bokman.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, despite the numerous benefits derived from play for both children and parents, time for free play has been markedly reduced for some children. A 1999 survey taken by the National Association of Elementary School Principals found that only 70% of even kindergarten classrooms had a recess period. In 2007, up to 8,500 schools nationwide did not have recess. SCM will provide hands-on, multi-sensory learning opportunities where children are encouraged to think for themselves, expand their problem-solving abilities through creative exploration, and exercise both their bodies and their minds.
